The CDIID branch of the police which acts as a internal police investigation mechanism is currently investigating a case against OSD officer Sergeant 1350 Alfred Dumbuya who is a driver attached to OSD Headquarters in which it is alleged he played the role of a Magistrate and endorsed court warrants that sent the widow of the late Vice President, Hon. Christian Kamara-Taylor and her children and relatives to Pademba Road Prisons for three days.
According to the evidence before the CDIID, Sergeant Dumbuya who is said to have a land dispute with the Kamara-Taylor at Rokel, on the 18th August, 2009 acted on a warrant endorsed by Magistrate Deen-Tarawallie and arrested the family within the court precincts and unbeknown to the Magistrate illegally appended his signature on a court warrant that allowed for the Kamara-Taylors to be detained at Pademba Road Prisons.
But according to a court clerk, who spoke in anonymity to this press for fear of vindictiveness, the Kamara-Taylors were scheduled for appearance at the court on Tuesday 18th August but by some mysterious circumstance the case was instead called on Monday 17th August when they were absent.
"On the 18th August when these people appear they never knew there was a Bench Warrant waiting for them," the clerk told Peep.
The Clerk said that while the Kamara-Taylors were waiting for the Magistrate to explain to him why they were not in court the previous day, Sergeant Dumbuya appeared with some police and prison officers and arrested them.
The Clerk said that without the knowledge of the Magistrate, Sergeant Dumbuya, who is not part of the Judiciary, did the work of a Magistrate and endorsed the warrants and the five people, agreeable Marie Kamara-Taylor, Simmah Kamara-Taylor, Abu Bakarr Kamara, Momoh Bangura and Bai Kargbo were quickly whisked off to Pademba Road Prisons.
Another mystery that surrounds the case is that the Kamara-Taylors who were alleged to have committed an affray at Rokel were never arrested by either police officers from Waterloo or Jui which are the closest to Rokel but by rogue officers from Kissy Mess Mess police station where Sergeant Dumbuya was attached at the time.
The Kamara-Taylors are crying to the authorities to help them see that justice takes it course because since they reported Sergeant Dumbuya to the CDIID in August they have been dragging their feet to decide on the mater.
A CDIID officer who spoke in anonymity to this press aid that that place is the most corrupt among all the police wings.
"We investigate cases here and find our colleague officers guilty but nothing is done. Instead they are even patted on their backs," the officer said in disgust. |
