The Sierra Leone Health Workers' Union has appealed to His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma, to continue making positive strives in order to improve the decadent and deplorable working conditions of health workers in the country.
Talking to the Press at the Labour Congress hall yesterday, Secretary General of the Health Workers' Union, Mr. Ansu Kalokoh, praised President Koroma as a visionary leader who cares more for the improvement of the health condition of the people of this country.
"President Koroma believes that Health is Wealth and he has demonstrated it by putting more premium in the Health Ministry in order to redouble their delivery effort in improving the peoples' living conditions," Mr. Kalokoh stated.
According to Mr. Kalokoh, one of the good things President Koroma has done not only for the health ministry but also for the country as a whole is the bold decision to transfer the most proactive and result oriented Deputy Minister Hon. Mohamed D. Koroma, to the Ministry.
Other members of the Health Service Workers Union unanimously accepted that within this short while, there is a big change at the Ministry due to the non-compromising attitude of the Deputy Minister to rid corruption off that all important ministry.
"We only want to appeal to His Excellency, President Koroma, that it is the likes of the current Deputy Minister that are fit in that ministry at this point in time," the president of the Union stated, added that, the man has changed the original perception of the people that the ministry was the most corrupt. The Union scribe further stated that he does not have any personal relationship with the Deputy Minister to sing praises of him, but said it is the truth that he is the fittest man to head that ministry for now.
He concluded by saying, that the President will see a bad difference if he refuses to listen to what they as workers of the ministry are saying.
When asked what if the President decided to kick out Hon. Mohamed Koroma from the ministry, the union scribe said: "I know what I am saying and the president must see it for himself and he will not escape from the people's blame because he does not need an armchair minister".
