Man Fined For Beating Pregnant Wife
43 years old Abu Bakarr Kabba past Wednesday appeared before Magistrate J.O. Wellington of Court 2 to answer to three Count charges relating to his abandonment of his family.
Kabba was captured by Police on the 20th August, 2011 after his common law wife, Frances Cole, made a report against him at Kissy Mess Mess Police Station on the 16th August, 2011.
It is alleged that Kabba who was living with his family at 23 Teneba Road, Kontoloh, Wellington, ran away from them 4 months after the baby was born to live with another woman.
Not being able to withstand the pressure of caring for the baby without its dad's help, Frances went to the Family Support Unit of Kissy Mess Mess Police Station where she made the report.
Kabba faces three counts: Cruelty to a Child, a charge in which it is alleged he willfully abandoned his son in a manner in which it is likely to cause him unnecessary suffering or injury to his health.
Count Two is Domestic Violence, leveled on the grounds of the accused economically abusing his common law wife, Frances with whom he is in domestic relationship.
Count Three is also Domestic Violence for Psychologically abusing Frances, leaving her in abject poverty while he goes around flashing money with another woman. In his mercy, Magistrate Wellington granted the accused bail of Le20m with two sureties. He will be back in Court on Saturday 27th August.
Woman Tells Court How She Was Brutalized By Her Boyfriend
Being led in evidence by Woman Sergeant 5115 M. Pratt, tailoring student, Mariama Jalloh told Court 4 where Magistrate Binneh Kamara sits, how her boyfriend, Alie Koroma, beat her up on the 15th April 2011.
Mariama who now lives at Ross Road after leaving the house at Ashobi Corner where both of them were staying, told the court that Koroma had got used to using her as a punch bag.
"On that day," she told the Court, "the accused slapped me on the back for my neck and as I was trying to recover from that, he grabbed me from behind and dragged me outside, kicking and punching me as we went".
Mariama told the court that the accused kicked her three times on her stomach making her sick.
"I thought he was going to kill me so when I got the chance to free myself from his hold, I ran straight to Ross Road Police Station where I made a report".
The witness added that after the beating she was unable to walk for three days.
"To rub salt to my already injurious mind," Mariama testified.
"He threatened that if I proceed with the matter he will make my vagina to rot".
Case is adjourned to tomorrow.
Magistrate To Decide On Generator Attack Matter
Principal Magistrate, J.O. Wellington will this Saturday decide on a Domestic Violence matter in which the accused is alleged to have used a generator which he himself set on fire, to scald the back of his common law wife.
Accused, Matthew Bai Jabbie, was said to have gone nuts when he suspected his partner of having an affair.
According to witnesses, Jabbie went into the 'panbody' shack of his partner and locked himself inside her room set and the generator on fire with himself and the burning generator inside. His partner told the Court that it was neighbours that told her that her shack was on fire.
"Even though I tried to cajole him to come out, he refused until the door was broken down".
Jabbie's partner told the court. She said that after the door had been broken open, Jabbie took the still burning generator and plaster it on her back, badly scalding her.
It was neighbours, the court learnt, that used some sand to put out the fire.
Jabbie is standing trial for domestic violence which is alleged to have been meted out on his partner.
65 Years Old Fraudster Nabbed
65 years old Ibrahim Kamara who describes himself as a businessman was last week nabbed by one of his fraud victims and handed over to Police who have since bundled him to Court.
The trickster who was living at Calaba Town before he went into hiding and who now resides at 5 Thunder Hill, Kissy, is said to have hoodwinked a good number of people into believing that he is a heir to much property which he was disposing of to avoid the hassle of maintaining and keeping an eye on them.
His first victim, according to Police records, was one Haja Ramatu Kabba from whom he pocketed the sum of Le7m with the tall story that he will sell her two town lots pieces of land.
Hook, line and sinker she fell for the con man's tale and handed over the money.
But since 2009 when the cash was handed to him, grandpa Kamara evaporated only to be caught last week.
Kamara also collected from another of his victim, Mohamed Jalloh, who lives at Fourah Bay Road, Le500,000, Le600,000 and Le900,000 with the same story of owning a two town lot which he was selling.
When the alleged fraudster appeared before Principal Magistrate J.O. Wellington past Wednesday, he was granted Le20m bail to reappear next week.
Alleged Cruel Mother's Bail Restored
A woman facing trial for cruelty to her own children, has had her bail restored after she was remanded in custody by Principal Magistrate J.O. Wellington after she jumped bail in the first instance.
Mariatu Mahmoud Kargbo who has become estranged with her toddlers' father, is alleged to have mercilessly beaten her two children, a boy and a girl who are aged 6 and 8 respectively.
According to the 8 years old who was put in the custody of John Bosco by Social Welfare Staff, but is now living with her father at Wellington, they had just returned from school when their mum accused them of having returned home too late. "She beat us mercilessly and poured hot water on my brother's hand". The fattish accused is facing cruelty charges and if she is found to have a case to answer if she will be sent to the High Court to face the music.
Teacher Physically Abuses Neighbour
Tall, dark, Hannah Kai Davies, 32, Wednesday appeared before Principal Magistrate, J.O. Wellington for allegations ranging from Physical Abuse to Malicious Damage.
Kai Davies, a teacher, is alleged to have attacked the complainant, Kadijatu Eunice Bangura, her neighbor, on Sunday 31st July, 2011 at 17 Settra Kroo Street and physically abused her tearing her black coat which is said to be worth Le150,000, her brown blouse worth Le100,000 and a green shirt which the victim was having on worth Le50,000, making a total of Le300,000.
The teacher who looked pensive as the charges were read to her, was granted Le15m with two sureties to stand on her behalf.
The Preliminary Investigation will start proper on Saturday 27th August.
Man Fined For Beating Pregnant Wife
Abu Bakarr Kamara, 35, got his comeuppance last week after Magistrate Binneh Kamara sitting at Court 4 found him guilty of assaulting his common law partner, Mariatu Koroma.
Kamara who it was said during his summary trial, had developed the habit of beating his wife, went nuts after a minor tiff with her and beat her with a broom.
The convicted man who lives at 9 Ranger Street, off Mountain Cut, was fined Le150,000 with an alternate one month imprisonment.
