As we are experiencing acute increament in the prices of Commodities and Food stuffs, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Richard Conteh, at a press briefing on 25th August, 2011, divulged to press men that after a serious two days meeting with major rice dealers in the country to brainstorm and chase a reduction in the prices of rice in our markets, they were able to strike a compromise with the dealers to reduce prices in their rice sales.

That, he said, is part of the President's Agenda for change. The Minister stated that his government is interested in maximizing the welfare of its citizens, thereby ensuring that the common Sierra Leonean are able to live an average life. The Minister assured journalists that, should any dealers go contrary to their covenant, letters will be written to the Inspector General of Police and Office of National Security to help monitor the situation.

The Minister also stated that they will ensure the cost for importing rice to Sierra Leone be reduced, significantly reassuring that their national directives would ensure affordable rice prices.

He suggested that he is hoping the trend would follow other commodities in the Sierra Leone Market.

According to the Minister, the following prices are now in our wholesale markets for both 25% and 100% broken rice through out the country.
