After a lot of criticisms leveled against African Minerals, the country's most outstanding Mining Company by some Sierra Leoneans, especially opposition parties' members, and civil society groups, that it helps with no significant use in the lives of Sierra Leone, that its establishments, did not go through the due process of the Rule of Law, and that the Mines and Minerals Act 2009 had been contradicted, flouted and circumvented,
that its C.E.O Frank Timis, is no stranger to controversy and has a number of drug offences behind him, that it is not meeting its Corporate Social Responsibility the Minister in a press conference held at the Ministry of Information and Communications conference room said contrary to these allegations.
In the press gallery of the Ministry of Information, at the Youyi Building, on 25th August, 2011, the Hon. Minister of Mines, Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray, refuted the allegations of different concerned Sierra Leonean groups, saying that African Minerals carries its Co-operate Social Responsibility. They pay their taxes on time and to crown it all, he said to journalists present that the Company is operating within the ambit of the laws and to the satisfaction of his Ministry.
