Four Sierra Leonean Media Gurus of reputation, prestige and honour, who have distinguished themselves by their writings, attitude and behaviour in the politico-socio-economic-development of this country have been recognized, identified and honoured by the FREEDOM OF INFORMATION AND COALITION FORUM/PROGRAMME which comprised of Sierra Leoneans living abroad but with immense interest in the development of this country.
The four Sierra Leoneans who were honoured at an Awards giving ceremony hosted in the Conference Hall of the SANTANO HOUSE, at Howe Street, Freetown, at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 11, 2010, were - the deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation - Mr. Mohamed Daudis Koroma, for his timely pro-activity and productivity since he was appointed by President Ernest Bai Koroma in that Ministry on Thursday, March 5, 2009, thereby rebranding that once moribund Health and Sanitation Ministry: the medico cum prolific scribe and columnist, Dr. Sama S. Banya, for his critical yet very patriotic accurate and impartial writings.
The honourable and reputable Chairperson of the Independent Media Commission - Mrs. Bernadette Cole, for her initiative, patience and industry in overseeing the establishment of a school of Journalism at Fourah Bay College, from a certificate, diploma, Bachelor of Arts and now offering a Masters Programme in Mass Communication.
Then, Richie Olu Gordon, proprietor and editor of Peep Magazine, for his immense and amazing courage, vision and commitment in the face of whatever odds and occupational hazards in his fearless, yet accurate and impartial News Reporting, Commentaries and Analysis to the commendation of friends and self-made foes alike.
The Chairperson for the occasion was Mr. Idrissa Conteh (aka) Atomic Pen of Concord Times fame in the late 1990's and now working for the United Nations in Niger, in West Africa,
Mr. Oswald Hanciles, of the Public Relations Office at the National Revenue Authority, (NRA) who is alike an erudite and prolific journalist coordinated the activity.
