Perhaps the midnights ‘raid’ on ACC offices will now convince the authorities of the need to find a new and secure location for our nation Anti - Corruption Commission. The ACC was started by President Kabbah. But, as usual, he didn't think of finding them a secure location. Kabbah, as was his usual practice, simply dumped them in a ramshackle building on top of the old Government Bookshop.
Kabbah later just dumped his brother in Law there. (Joko Smart of the cracked cranium). So I guess he at least had the logic of being consistent.
Anyway when the APC and President Ernest Koroma came to power, he promised that the ACC would be strengthened. And indeed he did so .The Commission was given greater powers by amendment of the old ACC Act.
The ACC Act (2008) added 29 sharper teeth (powers) to the weak dentures the ACC had before.
It did not occur to him or the APC to 'empower' the ACC by giving them new office space in a safe and secure location.
So the recent raid may be a dark cloud with silver lining … There is no point having an ACC if its offices can be easily burgled and vital files stolen.
When reminds me … how did the miscreants manage to waltz around in the middle of Freetown carrying out their dastardly mission when presumably the whole area is patrolled by joint Police and Army teams?
And will it take genius, or do we have to invite the world renowned detective SHEYELOCK HOLMES to discover who had to motive for such a despicable act?
After all this was not a mid carried out by the following groups of people
1. Disgruntled NRA workers who searching for their 2009 Christmas bonus.
2. Confused traders who were hoping to find out exactly while GST meant.
3. Macpi army men who, though, as they did on May 25, 1997 that computers were small televisions on which they could watch the PREMIER LEAGUE.
MOTIVE? Opportunity? Who benefits from such a crime?
Obviously the police should be reaching their own conclusions but the one we have reached is "get the ACC out of that UNSAFE BUILDING!" |
