Following a report in Peep Magazine in December, 2009, which claimed that Daru Barracks, which stands at a strategic point on the borders between this country and Guinea and Liberia, was about to be closed, the Media Director of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, Colonel John Milton, has told this press that the decision is to be reversed.

According to the Media boss, a good number of military officers will be dispatched to Daru Barracks to stay permanently, today, Friday, 5th February.

"The down sizing of Daru Barracks was not deliberate," Colonel Milton explained. "The war is over and now we are restructuring the force, it was as a result of that that we moved most of the personnel at Daru to Kenema. But we are sending some more men to beef up the security at that end of the country".

Colonel Milton disclosed that the number of personnel who were in the military employ during the war years has been halved and instead of four brigades, there are now only three.

"Now we are talking about developing this country not about paying people for doing nothing. The redundant soldiers can still find other things to do", he said.

Fear gripped the Kailahun area when the people learnt that Daru Barracks was about to close but now the fear has been allayed with the Colonel's assurance that DaruBarracks is there to stay forever.
