Timber Boards Intercepted At Lumpa Check Point On Board Ministry Of Agriculture Vehicle PDF Print E-mail

Even though the government of Sierra Leone has banned the timber production in the country, there are certain unscrupulous persons that are still sabotaging the efforts of government. Over the weekend, a team of police officers at Lumpa, Waterloo check point, intercepted a truck belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture with the registration number AEC 407, loaded with over 150 pieces of timber boards which production had been banned by the government. The vehicle was taken to the Criminal Investigation Department in Freetown for further investigations. According to the driver of the vehicle, Mr. Mohamed Barrie, he has admitted that the timber boards on board the vehicle are the property of the Director of Agriculture in Magburaka, Mr. Henry Kargbo. He went further to say that the timber boards are for the making of furniture for the Director, Mr. Henry Kargbo. In an interview with the Assistant Director Proaction of the CDIID in Freetown, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr. Rhoben Shyllon, he maintained that his office has intercepted over twenty two vehicles since they started their operations on the 3rd of January this year and they had escorted all the vehicles to the Criminal Investigation Department Office in Freetown for further investigations. He said his men will do all that is possible to ensure that his office minimizes the rate of trafficking timber boards into the city of Freetown.
