The Federal Republic of Germany has formally declared war on the Republic of Sierra Leone following the election of Mrs. Zainab Bangura as Sierra Leone's first female President last week. Foreign Secretary Hans Drubekker said Germany had often warned that she would resort to 'armed force' in her self-declared 'War Against FGM'.
"By openly electing a leader who has refused to denounce the practice of female cutting, we have no other opportunity than to intervene, in Sierra Leone for humanitarian reasons, to put an end to this barbaric practice," Herr Drubekker said.
The Germans have said their was 'not against the people of Sierra Leone' and have promised minimal loss of life in a surgical operation (excuse the pun) to excise the FGM culture from Sierra Leone.
"We have no other territorial ambitions though Sierra Leone, with its miles of sandy beaches and under-populated hinterland, could be lebensraum (living space) for our burgeoning population", the German Foreign Affairs Minister noted.
Meanwhile President Bangura has called on all 'friendly nations' to rally behind Sierra Leone to resist this act of 'wanton imperialist aggression'.
But so far the African Union has not issued a statement against the German declaration. Unlike Sierra Leone, most African countries abolished FGM some years ago. |
